2026 F. Gordon Wilson Fellowship for Affordable Housing Winners: Spacecraft Architects
Spacecraft Architects are the winners of the 2026 Fellowship for their proposal 'D.I.Y. Density'.
With D.I.Y. Density, Caro Robertson and Tim Gittos of Spacecraft Architects aim to develop a high-quality, stream-lined design for co-living developments that makes these tricky and desirable projects more achievable and accessible. This entry stood out due to its clear utility, strong design focus, and well-conceived brief.
The jury was impressed by Spacecraft’s depth of experience with the design and process of DIY developments and their beautiful portfolio of work in the realm of small multi-unit housing. Small-scale owner-developed co-housing is often aspired to and rarely achieved, and Spacecraft’s real-world experience with these projects is a valuable asset.
Caro and Tim demonstrated that they understand the creativity, thriftiness, and compromise that these projects require, and that they can ably apply this depth of knowledge to their elegant designs. We have high hopes that their project can help to make more of these projects a reality in Aotearoa New Zealand.
