Set across three levels on a steep suburban site, this project shows a confident and carefully considered response to both the terrain and the use of materials. The rammed earth design is supported by a concrete structure, and the technical skill required to build in rammed earth on such a constrained and sloping site is particularly impressive. Sustainability features are meaningfully integrated into the design rather than added as surface elements. A green roof softens the building’s connection to the landscape, while the thermal mass of the rammed earth helps create a calm and stable indoor environment. A circular skylight above the ensuite shower brings natural light into the space and creates a memorable everyday experience.
