Location
Canterbury

This new Surf Lifesaving Pavilion attaches itself, limpet-like, to an existing concrete plinth that provides a physical and social anchor for the club. A shed, set back into the sandhill, stores lifesaving gear and surfboards, while the pavilion accommodates the club’s observation space, search-and-rescue operations, and training activities within a robust and familiar materiality. Overlooked by hillside neighbours, these separate forms, built using contrasting construction solutions, provide a scale and palette in harmony with the beachfront.
