This refreshing and honest little getaway doesn’t take itself too seriously. An array of vernacular forms cleverly frames outdoor space, while offering privacy from the subdivision beyond and for inter-generational gatherings. Construction techniques, which are clearly expressed, hark back to the A-Frame; exposed timber interiors add warmth and vibrancy, while the exterior dark-stained cedar and steel roofing bring compositional consistency and embed the forms into the landscape. ‘The Folly’, a tower containing a woodstore and elevated bunkrooms, and yellow accents provide some contrast.
