This new Fort Street lift lobby for the existing Lumley Centre adds greater value to the streetscape while enriching the entry experience for those arriving on foot from the Britomart Station. Referencing the main tower lobby off Shortland Street above, the crafting and careful articulation of high value materials offers an intervention unique to this Fort Street edge. In the space between pavement and the underside of the existing canopy, the project finds room to echo the heritage of the street, with a stone façade reflecting and interpreting the rhythm of the adjoining building. Here a site-specific approach successfully triggers the memory of the warehouses and foreshore that once stood on this frontage while bringing new substance and gravitas to the streetscape.
