2025 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
R & B New Home
In an homage to the Californian houses of the mid-20th century, this house employs the horizontal planes of the flat-roofed glass pavilion to great effect, showcasing the natural landscape of Lake Ōkāreka. Sited on a finger of land extending into the lake, the house reads like a reversed peninsula, anchored to the land at its head and extending its reach back towards the mainland in an elevated platform. Views to the lake are experienced on both sides of the elongated form – the extensive glazed sliding doors allow seamless connections to the exterior landscape, where boulders of local rock create an almost primal landscape experience.
