Clarity and transparency are the outstanding characteristics of this building which both enables and declares its purpose as factory and research facility. There is an echo of Victorian ambition and Bauhaus straightforwardness in the design and material palette, and also a nod to the New Zealand timber tradition. Inside, light-filled, voluminous and flexible spaces make for a pleasant and purposeful working environment. The exterior is generous, too, and the long roadside elevation is a fine addition to the streetscape and wider urban scene.
