Concealed within the dunes at Te Arai Links, the experience of arrival is central to the architecture of the Bunker Bar. A discreet pathway winds between concrete walls, descending into the earth before the large entry door opens to reveal expansive views across the 18th green and ocean beyond. Inside, a sunken lounge and curved bar create an intimate social focus, while full-height glazing draws the landscape into the space. Robust concrete, warm cedar and softened curves in the bar, joinery and seating balance the elemental character of the bunker with comfort and tactility. Compact yet highly resolved, Bunker Bar demonstrates how architecture can create anticipation, delight and a sense of occasion at a remarkably small scale.
