The Strip Mall, located in the centre of Te Papa-i-Oea Palmerston North, combines a bicycle shop, graphic design studio, and a residence for self-employed clients while diverging from conventional urban development forms often seen in New Zealand. The site design introduces architectural bands, which maximise daylight with north-facing floor plates and natural ventilation, while also providing outdoor living spaces adjacent to the house and shops. Courtyards interspersed throughout the structure offer passersby glimpses into the building’s activities, enhancing street-level interest.
