Air control is a critical service and air control towers have several very specific height, visibility and accommodation requirements. Studio Pacific has met all the required needs of Airways Nelson in a new control tower, but in doing so has also managed to rise to greater design heights. The six-level structure is a sculpted and tapered sentinel that stands proudly in the airfield surrounds. The connecting stair, however, wrapped on three sides with glass, is a celebration of lightness and an elegant counterpoint to the neighbouring terminal that was also designed by Studio Pacific.
