This is a house for the ages – and a home for art – an exquisite configuration of living pavilions seemingly carved out of the Central Otago landscape. From the expanse of the large flag-stoned courtyard, the house burrows into a prominent knoll, unfolding into spaces that could be read alternatively as in-ground glasshouse or exterior hallway. Throughout, the architect has orchestrated a celebration of schist and corten steel – two robust and carefully crafted local materials that in their application call to mind the region’s local mining heritage.
