A gift to the people of Christchurch, the Chapel of St Thérèse of Lisieux is a project with a strong sense of generosity and care. Designed and built by the architect and his studio, the chapel carries a clear sense of authenticity and personal commitment. Set into the steep hills of Lyttelton and facing toward Ripapa Island, the chapel reflects the spirit of its namesake through simple and carefully considered design. Rimu walls and a red translucent roof create a warm and calming atmosphere inside. A crucifix carved from earthquake-salvaged kauri by Māori artist Johnny Hauraki completes this quiet and deeply thoughtful space.
