The clever insertion of a contemporary building within the traditional school fabric has given Christchurch Boys’ High School a new heart. All 1300 boys can now be seated in a multiuse space. The inclusion of historical elements such as the World War Two Memorial Doors, headmasters’ portraits, wall panelling and the window above the stage help connect the new work to the existing building. Both Maori and European influences are expressed in the fabric and patterning of the hall, consistent with the design purpose of bringing people together.
