A grouping of three buildings with saw-toothed terraced forms and carefully considered materials provide much-needed social housing for Kāinga Ora in Rotorua. The architects’ adoption and implementation of Homestar and energy efficiency metrics as a matter of routine to assess projects is to be commended, particularly here where it benefits some of our most vulnerable tangata. Materiality and building forms provide individuality to the homes and the site planning addresses the issues of an arterial road frontage. Most importantly, manaaki tangata is demonstrated here and a real sense of community is being established.
