This house, with beautifully detailed clerestory windows illuminating a folded ceiling, is an elevated living platform, designed around an internal courtyard that is totally appropriate for the predominantly pōhutukawa forest setting. It is an elegant solution for achieving a well ventilated, light-filled space. The verandah / living room, with an internal balcony / barrier, is, in particular, a very effective means of striking a balance between openness and shelter in what can be an extreme environment.
