This alteration and addition transforms an existing home overlooking Lake Hayes into a confident and carefully resolved dwelling connected to its alpine setting. A new entry sequence moves from enclosed spaces to open views of the lake and mountains beyond. Inside, detailed timber work and textured materials add warmth and richness. Upgrades to the building envelope and services improve thermal performance, while the adaptive reuse approach extends the life of the home. Schist, weathering steel, and other grounded materials reinforce a strong Central Otago character.
