This project is centred around creating a strong sense of community. A brief for a place where people can live, work, and worship has been reimagined as an urban monastery. The masterplan arranges the church, social services, and housing around a shared cloister space, creating a strong communal heart. Simple white metal-clad buildings face onto this central area, helping create an active and welcoming environment for shared meals, gatherings, and everyday interaction. Despite a limited budget, the project uses careful planning and simple materials to great effect. Sliding kitchen windows, flexible furniture, full-height doors, and private courtyards make the homes feel generous and liveable. The result is an inspiring example of thoughtful inner-city community design.
