Decrepit to the point of write-off, this little 154-year-old piece of Nelson history has fortunately found an owner prepared to invest in its longevity. Throughout this project the necessary interventions have been handled without compromise to heritage value. The inspired decision to rotate the structure has enhanced the overall site utility, with building services carefully concealed and new amenities housed in an unobtrusive extension. The original chapel has been left intact. It is a beautiful space with an elegant trussed ceiling, requiring and given nothing but rigour and simplicity in its restoration.
