These pragmatic sheds provide an adaptable range of community amenities that complement the more formal Marae. The palpable determination of the client group to make this Te Ukaipo a nurturing place, is the great achievement of this building. It is evident in the confronting display of the ‘Crown Apology’; the signatures of the current iwi members engraved on the wall; and the reused floorboards from an earlier hall, saved to be proudly trod by future generations. This is a fine example of inclusive architecture.
