Future Islands: Floor talk, 2pm, Sunday 10 September
Join creative director Charles Walker for a guided talk through Future Islands. This is the first time New Zealand’s exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale has been shown in New Zealand. In Future Islands, a grouping of floating islands occupy a sea of space, housing models of more than 50 built and speculative architectural projects. Hear from the directors on the theme of the exhibition exploring the practice and promise of architecture in New Zealand – a small, open society that is diverse, changing and economically (and seismically) vulnerable; and gain insight into the exhibition’s time at the 2016 Venice Biennale.
Future Islands: In Conversation, 2pm, Sunday 17 September
Hear architects featured in Future Islands, New Zealand’s exhibition at the 2016 Venice Biennale, speak on their architectural projects. Future Islands includes over 50 architectural projects, some built and yet to be realised, while others are purely speculative. The line-up for In Conversation includes Ken Crosson from acclaimed architectural practice Crosson Architects, and presenter of the 2015 TV series The New Zealand Home; and architectural graduate at Jasmax in the education team, and a member of Waka Māia, Elisapeta Heta. The architects will speak to their projects included in Future Islands, illustrating the wider life of the work and bringing the models to life for audiences.
Both events are free and no registration is required. View all Festival of Architecture events here.
