Become an Professional Member
The Institute has represented and supported the architecture profession in Aotearoa since 1905 and strives to assist members in making a meaningful difference to the quality our built environment.
Why become a Professional member?
Professional membership provides the tools and information you need in practice; it encourages collegiality; and it champions the cause of architecture in society. Through its membership, the Institute wants to assist its members to make a real difference to the quality of the built environment in this country.
There are a number of benefits associated with Professional membership. On behalf of our members, the Institute runs a very active promotional programme both online and in print publications, and through our own marketing of awards and events. All Institute members receive the Bulletin, a weekly email-newsletter, regular email updates on local branch activities, and the bi-monthly magazine, Architecture NZ (published independently by AGM Publishing).
Other benefits include the use post-nominals (i.e. NZIA, FNZIA – the Institute Constitution provides guidance on what is permitted) and access to an extensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme that ensures architects are kept up to date with the latest advances in design, documentation, project management and practice management.
Each course is developed by industry experts and recognised by the NZRAB as a quality CPD system. In-office Training Groups (IOT), Practice Support Groups (PSG), and a range of local events and collegial activities, such as in:situ, the Institute bi-annual conference, are also opportunities for members to extend their understanding and practice of architecture.
Other benefits include: Institute publications, technical documents and guide-books free of charge or at member rates; reference copies of Institute construction contracts and services agreements at member rates; submissions, comments and representations to government in relation to legislation and regulation; representation on the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and other industry bodies; affiliation with overseas institutes; marketing and public relations activities.
