Dear Member

Fire Co-ordination Statement - IPENZ PN 22

A number of members have recently been asked by various Councils for a PN 22 Fire Co-ordination statement as part of Building Consent application. The NZIA recommends that members do NOT sign this statement.

This design coordination statement is provided to the Building Consent Authority in accordance with the IPENZ Practice Note 22 Guidelines for Documenting Fire Safety Designs and is intended to accompany the documents submitted in the application for building consent.

When the fire designer produces documentation for the appropriate discipline to incorporate into their building consent/construction documents, the fire designer and other disciplines share responsibility for correct interpretation and accurate representation in the other disciplines' documents. Primary responsibility for co-ordinating the design correctly rests with the design consultant responsible for producing the documents.

However, it is expected that the building consent documents are referred back to the fire designer to undertake a secondary review of the documents for compliance with the fire engineering design.

It is also recommended in PN 22 that the Fire Safety Designer will usually provide the Fire Co-ordination Statement.

Kind regards
