Selected Project

S House, Oakura

This unique, contemporary home, located in Oakura captures a true New Zealand sense of style. Situated on an elevated coastal site, the design utilises extensive glazing to maximise panoramic sea views. On arrival, you are greeted by an impressive timber screened facade, which is the ultimate privacy provider with operable shutters that open up porthole views to the world. A drawbridge inspired walkway to a vibrant red front door is a pleasing welcome to visitors. Traces of red, black and white are detailed through the timber vertical screen elements enhancing the contemporary aesthetic. Timber horizontal louvers on the seaward side protects the occupants from harsh summer sunlight, without blocking the view. Living and entertaining spaces are free of divisions, with open plan kitchen dining and audio/visual area. Bedrooms are spacious, colourful and positioned for privacy and views. Timber flooring from the client’s former residence, was reused in the kitchen joinery. Sanded back and blonded, these floor boards are now a reminder of memories of times past. This home appears seamless, with similar materials used both on exterior and interior, and with landscaping that anchors the house to its site. At approximately 300 square metres, this home effortlessly blends modern style with relaxed coastal living.
