Kauri Cliffs Spa
Kauri Cliffs is a luxury golf resort in Matauri Bay, Northland. Clients, Josie and Julian Robertson, required a new standalone health spa and fitness facility to replace a smaller existing facility within their lodge. The chosen site was a grass-covered slope leading to a mature Totara forest situated beside the road approaching the lodge. The building is partially buried and obscured by the formation of a planted bund on the southern side, the other sides are obscured by the forest, such that visitors to the lodge are now largely unaware that they have passed a building at all. Within the building are reception and waiting areas, three treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy room, gymnasium, swimming and spa pools and sauna.
