Colin McCahon Cottage
Set in a Titirangi bush valley among mature kauri and nikau, the house emerges as a sentinel of New Zealand’s deep and spiritual association with the bush. A thorough and thoughtful restoration of a building that is at once both understated and powerful. This project allows the visitor to experience the living conditions of a great artist and the sacrifice required by all that lived in the house. A cleverly thought through insertion of interpretive elements that maintains and enhances the atmospheric integrity of the house, intensifying its sense of place and the importance of Colin McCahon as a creative thinker.
