Theme: Lost Architecture: Pōneke in Books
Explore Pōneke’s architectural past, present and possible futures through a special display of books and archival material at Te Matapihi. Featuring Wellington City Archives’ photographs and stories of lost and almost-lost architecture and landscapes, alongside buildings that were proposed but never realised, the city’s architectural “what ifs.”
Discover the buildings, places and ideas that have shaped Wellington, those that have disappeared or are at risk of being forgotten, and the possibilities that might have transformed the city.

Festival Launch + Ghost Forest Launch

For generations, our buildings and planning systems were shaped by relative predictability. That era is ending, yet flood-prone land keeps being fast-tracked for development while insurers quietly retreat from risk, leaving communities to bear the growing costs of recovery and resilience. Drawing on research into flood-resilient housing, Third Studio takes heed of the idiom "time and tide wait for no one" in an era of unpredictability — asking what it costs to maintain a system the water never agreed to, and what it would take to redesign the economies, incentives and assumptions that shape how and where we build.
