Skeggs House

The site has superb views over Tahunanui Beach to the sea and mountains beyond. The rooms on both levels open out to large terraces and decks facing these views to the north and west. This is a large but relatively compact house containing 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 3 living areas, a gymn/sauna and indoor pool. A main feature of the house is the two storey entrance atrium which is a central focus to the house from both inside and out. For this entrance space a two storey high glass wall faces east while rooflights bring north sun into a part of the house which would otherwise not receive much light. Curves have been used to soften the exterior form of the house in roof forms of the upper roof as viewed on approach to the house and from the beach as well as for the roof over the poolroom. The exterior of the house has been treated with muted colours which augment the colours of the timber window and door joinery. The swimming pool is contained within its own building linked to the house and opens out onto its own exterior courtyard through large sliding doors.
