Norman Wei and Cynthia Yuan are the winners of the 2025 fellowship for their proposal 'Loose-fit Futures'.
With Loose-Fit Futures, Norman and Cynthia think deeply about how we live and use space and how we relate to indoors and out. This entry stood out because of the researchers’ focus on real-world applications, having thought through how loose-fit architecture could work for New Zealand communities.
Pragmatic and viewed from a cultural lens, their project shows that there are populations that could take up the loose-fit model to produce new housing, using less materials. Norman and Cynthia’s project draws on our heritage of flexible living spaces, while maximising space on a smaller footprint. This is a cost-effective way of making homes more liveable for a range of Kiwi families.
An innovative and thoughtful solution that is bold in approach with real applications, Loose-fit Futures is ready to start today.
