Pauanui Beach Home
This house is a robust display of a unique relationship built on a superb coastal site. The brief – to make a hewn wooden building with a Polynesian background – has been superbly articulated. The balanced design, enriched by many voices, is centred around a soaring gable held aloft on a clear diagram of frame and transparent infill. The arrangement of family sleeping and nursery wings around the entrance path and cooking pit are a clear delight in the act of greeting, eating and living together.
