2025 Wellington Architecture Awards Winner
Te Kupenga o Rongomai: Maidstone Sports Hub
A generous, flexible and well-resolved community facility, this project successfully brings together multiple sports codes under one roof, creating a vibrant hub that is clearly valued by its users. The building’s form and internal planning support a range of programmes, while generous circulation and social spaces offer opportunities for gathering, connection and community pride. While the design does not reflect engagement with mana whenua or a strong sustainability narrative, these remain important considerations for community projects of this scale and significance. Overall, the hub is a strong civic gesture that serves its purpose well.
