2025 Wellington Architecture Awards Winner
Walker Box
Walker Box is a delightful defiance of the expected. Born from a self-build spirit and squeezed onto a sliver of a site, this 63-square-metre tower boldly challenges planning norms, spatial conventions, and what a home can be. Part dwelling, part studio, part homage to Roger Walker, it’s a layered, vertical world of colour, character, and clever detailing. While the use of concrete block invites discussion around sustainability, the project's compact footprint, long life span, and adaptability speak to a different kind of environmental responsibility. Infectiously fun and deeply personal, Walker Box is a testament to the power of small ideas, lovingly realised.
