Fairhall House
This is a sensitive addition and renovation project that breathes new life into a cherished heritage cottage making a contemporary home for an expanding family. Faced with the potential encroachment of future development, the design cleverly employs formal strategies to safeguard the home’s integrity against its future context. Moving through the dwelling unfolds as a carefully choreographed journey of compression and release. The architecture deftly captures ethereal high-level light, creating moments of airy spaciousness, while simultaneously carving out intimate nooks, achieving remarkable impact within the constraints of a modest budget. The new extension culminates in a seamless transition to a beautifully landscaped outdoor area, a vital connection to nature that was absent in the original cottage.
