House at Sailors Grave
A beautifully executed design that is thoughtfully modest, yet exquisite. It clearly resonates with the owners, the site and surrounding environment. One of the key features of the design is the entrance from the back of the dwelling into a singular central space of a sheltered courtyard, outdoor room and front deck. This connects the visitor to the bush, timber-lined living spaces, and the compelling ocean views. The two wings of the house stand on either side of a central shaft. Each has its own individual expression the couple’s personality and interests, unique but coherently drawn from a durable, soulful palette of honey-toned cedar boards, dark stained plywood, brass and rough poured concrete. This is a poetic house designed for conscious living.
