2025 Hawkes Bay/Gisborne Architecture Awards Winner
Hastings Boys High School
DCA Architects of Transformation have delivered a considered and future-focused learning environment that honours the school’s heritage while enabling pedagogical evolution. The design bridges traditional classroom layouts with flexible, shared spaces that support collaboration and adaptability. The architecture responds thoughtfully to both budget and site constraints, integrating passive ventilation, natural light and acoustic performance to create a comfortable and resilient teaching block. A central learning spine replaces standard corridors, maximising usable space and promoting cross-curricular engagement. This is a confident and contextually sensitive project that strengthens the identity of the school while meeting the practical needs of twenty-first century learning.
