2016 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner
Cardrona Hut
This delightful little building is both an accomplished exercise in sufficiency and an evocative and immediately appealing piece of domestic architecture. In its form and simple focus on satisfying its purpose as a safe and secure shelter it is suggestive of a back country tramping hut, although its detailing and level of design resolution deliver a rather more bespoke architectural experience. The hut proclaims, in an understated and highly legible way, the timely message that small can be beautiful.
