Finalist – Eva Jenkin

Eva Jenkin, from the Unitec School of Architecture, was a finalist in the 2019 NZIA Resene Student Design Awards for her project, 'Museum of the West'.

Project description

This project is a perceptive response to two challenging issues: on a general level, how to display flora and fauna in a contemporary museological setting; and, more particularly, how to exhibit the ecology of the Waitākere Ranges, a unique recreational resource under considerable environmental stress.

Citation

This project is a perceptive response to two challenging issues: on a general level, how to display flora and fauna in a contemporary museological setting; and, more particularly, how to exhibit the ecology of the Waitākere Ranges, a unique recreational resource under considerable environmental stress. The scheme carefully picks its way through its sensitive site, offering visitors an educational experience while limiting the effects of human visitation on Auckland’s most important regional park.
