Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is seeking to appoint a permanent full-time Pūkenga - Lecturer/Pūkenga Matua - Senior Lecturer in Construction within Te Wāhanga Waihanga-Hoahoa - Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation. This position reports to the Tumuaki - Head of Te Kura Waihanga - School of Architecture and is located at the Te Aro Campus.

This role also offers the unique and exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of new Bachelor and Master of Construction programmes launching in 2026. We envision transformative construction degrees that bring together creativity, mātauranga Māori, and digital innovation underpinned by environmental care. The programmes aim to equip graduates with the skills and mindset needed to shape resilient, culturally grounded futures and lead the transition toward more sustainable, technologically enabled construction practices. As a core academic in this initiative, you will have the opportunity to influence curriculum design, shape learning experiences, and contribute to building a distinctive, future-focused educational offering that reflects both local context and global relevance.

We are seeking an individual with experience in digital construction workflows, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the built environment, and modern methods of construction (MMC), including robotics. You will play a key role in delivering future-focused education, shaping industry-relevant curricula, and contributing to the development of sustainable, low-carbon construction practices.

Key responsibilities:

Coordinate and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in construction, digital tools, and contemporary construction technologies.
Advance a sustained and disciplinary-relevant research programme in areas such as digital construction, MMC, or AI-enabled workflows.
Supervise Master’s and Doctoral students through to successful completion.
Contribute to leadership, academic service, and outreach within the university and wider construction sector.
Develop strong relationships with industry partners, iwi, and external stakeholders to ensure teaching and research remain connected to professional practice.

Demonstrated expertise in teaching or applying BIM, digital workflows, AI tools, or MMC in a construction context.
A doctoral degree in construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field – or willingness to undertake doctoral studies.
A developing or established track record of scholarly research and a commitment to seeking research funding.
Ability to engage effectively with industry stakeholders, professional bodies, and community partners.
A commitment to working within Aotearoa New Zealand’s cultural and environmental context, including engagement with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Willingness to live and work in the Wellington region.
