'Designing Dreams' TV show profiles New Zealand architecture

29 October 2021

A new six-episode series profiles six New Zealand architects and takes us inside the buildings they love.

Each episode of new TV series Designing Dreams sees host Matthew Ridge visiting the favourite buildings of six architects: Pip Cheshire (Cheshire Architects), Julie Stout (Mitchell Stout Dodd), Nicholas Dalton (TOA Architects), Roger Walker, Anna-Marie Chin (Anna Marie Chin Architects) and Michael O’Sullivan (Bull O'Sullivan Architecture).

Pip Cheshire and Roger Walker are both past recipients of the Gold Medal, the highest individual honour for an architect in Aotearoa.

In this item about the TV series for Stuff, Ridge said he believes many Kiwis have the wrong idea about architects.

“People think you’ve got to have plenty of money to have an architect to build a house when, in actual fact, you don’t and they can show you ways to build things that are a lot cheaper," he told the reporter.

Designing Dreams can be viewed on Tuesdays at 8.30pm or streamed via Sky Go (you don't need a paid subscription). Watch the trailer below.
