Meet The Jury: 2025 New Zealand Architecture Awards

04 August 2025

A talented team and plenty of terrain to cover, we are grateful to our local judges and international judge for their time and expertise. Ahead of the nationwide jury tour commencing Monday 11 August, we are delighted to introduce you to the panel.

Craig Moller, Convenor

Craig (Ngāti Haua) is a director of Moller Architects and has been practicing architecture for more than three decades. He completed his undergraduate studies at Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland in 1990, prior to graduating with a Master of Architecture from Yale University in 1993. He has taught extensively, including at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland since 2007. Craig has sat on Accreditation Review Panels evaluating Schools of Architecture and has been a juror for the Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZIA Awards, Architecture NZ Interior Design Awards and Architecture + Women NZ Awards. In his spare time, Craig draws and rides a bike.

Beth Cameron

Beth co-founded Makers in 2013. The practice evolved from a desire to bring the architectural and construction environments closer together — making architecture more attainable through smart design and manufacturing efficiencies. Today, Makers is both an awarded studio (Makers of Architecture) and offsite manufacturing facility (Makers Fabrication). It has become known for delivering innovative site-specific solutions, with a focus on resilient, inspired, healthy environments and advanced building technologies.

Ilana Freadman

Ilana Freadman is a founding director of Freadman White, a Melbourne-based architecture practice known for its considered, contextually responsive designs. Ilana brings a refined sensibility to spatial planning, material expression and the lived experience of architecture. Freadman White’s work is grounded in strong conceptual thinking and a collaborative design approach that reflects the values and aspirations of each client. Under her leadership alongside Michael White, Freadman White has delivered award-winning residential, commercial and cultural projects across Australia.

Nicola Herbst

Nicola Herbst is a founding partner of Herbst Architects, established in 2000 with her husband and collaborator, Lance Herbst. Over the past 25 years, Nicola has played a leading role in the design direction of the practice. With a disciplined approach to the crafting of residential buildings and response to site and environment, Herbst Architects has been the recipient of numerous awards including the 2023 Sir Ian Athfield Award for Housing for Omata Beach House. Herbst Architects’ practice continues to influence the dialogue around Aotearoa New Zealand’s contemporary vernacular.
