Khandallah Active Solar Home
This major refurbishment of a 1940s stucco clad art deco house involved a new tiled "through lounge" offerng open plan living and access to both south east and north west garden areas. The new NW lobby is a dedicated solar harvesting space which automatically charges a 24 tonne river rock thermal mass in a well insulated sub floor chamber. This huge thermal "reservoir" is tapped throughout cold winter days not only warming the rest of the house but reducing relative humidity to a healthy 50% or less.
