Knight House

The Knight House is an alteration of an existing house to create a holiday home where one partner can see, from their bed, the other catching a good break in the surf. The extensive alterations carefully utilised the existing use rights of the old house to create upper living that opens right up to the morning sun and the sight and sound of the waves. The central outdoor entertaining deck provides separation between the main bedroom and the family space and is recessed between to gain shelter from the afternoon on shore breezes. Raising the roof over the central living space lets afternoon sun in through clerestorey windows so that the beach aspect can be enjoyed at any time of the day. The existing ground floor concrete block base was retained with the bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry and games room inserted into the modified spaces and the old garage. The brief was for a holiday home for the Knight’s to enjoy and entertain in and the achievement is appreciated by the owners and their many friends.
