McDonald House
Addition to an existing house to create a private and sheltered spaces for the parents to retreat to from the family and grand children while also creating a large communal area to be enjoyed by all the extended family and friends. These spaces open into each other and to the beach. The beach front site presented challenges of the afternoon on-shore winds, privacy from beach users, as well as negotiations with council over inundation levels. The additions provide a new entry to the house, large private lounge/library, office, kitchen and master bedroom all framing a courtyard. A large indoor/outdoor room completes the courtyard enclosure.
