Selected Project

Longbeach Bay Annex

Designed to respect the architectural language of the nearby boatshed and the existing houses on the site, the brief was for relaxed overflow accommodation for guests and children. This project includes the adjacent utility shed which was required for firewood storage, bins, a services hub for data and power, pump and filtration for water collection, workbench, bike and vehicle storage and an additional loft space. The response for the Annex was to divide it into a sleeping module, bbq and dining module and a living space module. The line between inside and outside is blurred where deck runs from the bbq/dining zone and wraps around the outside connecting the living space with a social seating zone, anchored by the insitu concrete fireplace. A sliding screen provides privacy and a wind buffer when in use, and an area to store bean bags and outside furniture when not in use. Built in furniture makes good use of the small spaces and the painted macrocarpa lining connects the building to the existing houses on site.
