Wairoa Maritime Village
This project will create canal-side housing in a way that hasn't been seen in New Zealand before. Construkt, working with Isthmus Group, have developed a concept for a maritime village where the houses have an intimate and direct relationship with the water. The inspiration for this vision can be found in NZ river ports from the 1800's when rivers were the prime conduit for trade. The potency of those port towns seems to lie in the great variety of ways the buildings mesh with the water edge; some fronting to a wharf edge others suspended over the water. Construkt have developed concept designs for four house typologies and several variants, and with Isthmus, development controls to be included within Manukau City's District Plan.
