Air NZ Koru Lounge

Air New Zealand commissioned Jasmax to design a new airline lounge for their presence within Christchurch Airport. Aligning the design to the values of Air New Zealand, inspiration for the interiors was drawn from the 180o view the lounge affords across the runway to the Southern Alps mountain range; capturing elements of native materials and integrating sustainability. The ceiling references the snow-capped peaks while the locally sourced timber wall panelling comes directly from the beech forests that cover its lower slopes. Jasmax worked closely with New Zealand furniture designer Simon James to develop the various seating options. Depending on preference, passengers can select any style from high tables with bar stools to low armchairs. Several elements were custom designed including the “lounger-leaner” in the front of the space accommodating two seating styles in one.
