Karaka Country Home
The owners of this six bedroom home in the rolling pastures of Karaka wanted a home with a rural character to suit the needs of their family, a comfortable space where teenagers can gather and be seen, but not always heard. We designed the home with three parts, with the central section being the main living and dining space with a media room above. A centrally placed kitchen separates a spacious double height family room from the more formal dining and grand piano space. The teenagers are at the western end with their bedrooms opening to a games room that leads on to the pool area. The parents wing is to the East with a large walk in wardrobe and en suite, a guest bedroom and an office. All living areas open out onto north and sea facing decks, covered by verandahs supported on recycled wharfe posts. The sections are connected by glazed walkways the appear to float above the garden water features. The owners sourced recycled character doors and iron work that feature throughout the interior and add to warmth and welcoming character of the home. The kitchen is by Leonie Von Stumer.
